Ladies-in-Waiting

Many of the "Portrait" recreations are of the nobility.  Commissioning a painting was expensive and therefore only the upper classes could afford to have them done.  Usually the sitters were painted in their best clothing which are quite a challenge to get into, especially for those of us not used to wearing them daily.  When we are appearing at an event we usually have a limited time to get all of us changed so we have members that usually join us to serve as Ladies-in-Waiting.  During the 1500's Ladies-in-Waiting would have normally worn the same style as those they were serving, just a bit less elaborate.  Our Ladies however, are dressed in "Loose Gowns".  These gowns allow them more flexibility of movement.  This enables them to help dress those wearing more complicated gowns and then can dress themselves.  These "Loose Gowns" are appropriate for the time even if not used in the same manner that we do.

These gowns are also much easier and faster to make than the more complicated court gowns.  Many new members want to join us at events before they have been able to get fancier outfit completed.  Making a loose gown enables them to join in for the events sooner.  It also lets them be more of an observer as the focus of visitors is usually on those wearing the "Portrait" clothes.  Below are some of our Ladies-in-Waiting.
