General  Information - Tudor

How It All Started

As with many of the projects we have undertaken, this all started with the phrase “I was thinking…”  For this one it was uttered by Uther (a friend living in northern Arizona).  Selina, our resident troublemaker, overheard these words and thus the madness began....

Uther wanted to dress up as King Henry VIII, with his wife, Grainne, dressing up as Katherine of Aragon. He wanted to have all of Henry’s wives and asked Selina if she was interested in being one of them. She had been wanting to make a dress from one of Jane Seymour’s portraits, but had put it off for various reasons. She realized this was the perfect opportunity!  A few days later this was brought up at a meeting and, as is wont to happen with this group, the idea took on a life of its own!   It grew into what we now call – “the Tudor Project”.  This was the first of our Portrait Garb projects.

Continuing Research

Since the early days of our project there has been more and more information published about the times during the Tudor Dynasty.  There are constantly new things being found - not only about the people, but also their clothes, new paintings are either found or released into public view, etc.  Many of our members keep an eye out for this new research and updates to some of the outfits have been made to reflect this new information.  If you have any questions about information on this website, please feel free to contact us.  Especially if you have seen information that differs from what we have listed.  We can't see everything so we may miss something.  We will look into any discrepancies brought to our attention and update our site as needed.
